How It Works

Bay Prints · Hout Bay

Ordering a print from Bay Prints is simple — you don't need to know anything about printing. Send us your photo, tell us what size you'd like, and we take care of everything. Here's exactly what happens from start to finish.

Hahnemühle fine art papers at the Bay Prints studio

Step 01

Choose your paper and size

Browse our papers and pick the size that suits your wall and your budget. Not sure which paper to choose? Our Our Papers page explains each one in plain language — or just send us a message and we'll advise based on your photo.

If you're printing a family photo and can't decide, Photo Rag is a warm, beautiful choice that suits almost any image.

Step 02

Send us your photo

After ordering, email your photo to info@bayprints.co.za with your order number in the subject line. We accept photos from your phone, your camera, or your computer — just send the original file, not a screenshot or a compressed version.

Sending a phone photo? That's absolutely fine for A4 and A3 sizes. For A2, a recent iPhone or Android on full resolution will work well.
Photographers: TIFF or JPEG, minimum 300dpi at print size, sRGB or Adobe RGB colour space.

Step 03

We check your file personally

Every file is reviewed by a professional photographer — not a machine — before we print anything. We check that your photo will print well at the size you've chosen. If anything needs attention we'll contact you first. We never print a file we're not happy with.

We aim to review every file within a few hours of receiving it. You'll hear from us the same day in most cases.

Step 04

Printed with care

Your print is produced on a professional Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 using archival pigment inks. We then let every print rest for a few hours before packaging — this is important for ink stability and long-term colour accuracy. Archival quality means your print is built to last: rated for 60+ years on display, and well over a century stored in an album or portfolio.

We use the same printer and papers for our own fine art work. Every order gets the same care.
Print packaged between protective tissue and rigid board

Step 05

Carefully packaged

Smaller prints are flat-packed between protective tissue and rigid board. Larger prints are rolled in a sturdy tube. Deckled edge prints are always flat-packed — never rolled — to protect the paper edges.

A beautiful print deserves to arrive in perfect condition. We take packaging seriously.

Can I use a photo from my phone?

Yes — for A4 and A3 a phone photo works well. For A2 use the highest resolution setting on your phone. We'll let you know if the file isn't quite sharp enough before printing.

What if I don't know which paper to choose?

Send us a message with your photo and we'll recommend the right paper. It takes two minutes and makes a real difference to the result. See our papers →

What if the print doesn't look right?

We review every file before printing specifically to avoid this. If something goes wrong on our end we reprint at no charge. See our T&Cs for full details.

How do I frame my print?

Standard prints fit any off-the-shelf A4, A3, or A2 frame. Deckled edge prints need to be float-mounted — ask us and we'll explain how. We also offer the Bay Box Frame: a handcrafted teak frame that we mount and fit your print into ourselves — see framing options →

Can I order more than one print?

Absolutely. Add the quantity you need at checkout and email us each file separately with the order number and which file is for which size.

How long will my print last?

All our prints use archival pigment inks rated for 60+ years on display and well over a century in an album. Keep out of direct sunlight and your print will outlast you.
